The band has a few instruments available to people wishing to join us.  Many schools are unable to supply instruments to children who wish to learn to play.  Some offer an instrument leasing scheme, or request a large bond up front for the release of an instrument.  Before you spend your hard earned cash, pop down to the bandroom to see what we have to offer.  We have a variety of instruments available for anyone interested in joining the band.  For those who would like to own their instruments, we also offer special deals to promote membership of the band.

Tuition costs £11 for a 30 minute lesson in the local comprehensive school.  The Band provides free lessons of 30-60 minutes a week, saving someone who learns to play with us at least £286 in the first six months!

Our visits to local junior schools in 2007 and 2008 led to the revival of our training band that includes several parents who are learning to play.  If you'd like to learn how to play a brass instrument, there's never been a better time to pay us a visit. Existing brass or woodwind players are able to join the training band - and membership is free.  So anyone learning to play an instrument in school can develop their skills in group playing, which is what music is all about! 

Following our promotion to the Third Section, we are looking for more enthusiastic brass players to help us to overcome our current shortage of players in some sections of the band.  All players are welcome and the areas where we most need a boost are the horn and trombone sections.  If you'd like to find out more, please visit the bandroom during one of our rehearsals or e-mail us at ystradband@yahoo.com

We're easy to find - from Swansea or the M4 (junction 45), take the A4067 signposted Pontardawe, then Ystradgynlais.  Keep on this road until you see a right turn marked Ystradgynlais (about 9 miles from the motorway) and follow the signs to the town centre.  At the cross (immediately after a zebra crossing) turn left and Sardis Chapel just across the bridge (the first building after a sharp right corner - about 300 yards from the cross).  The postcode for sat navs is SA9 1JY and a map can be found here.
