The Band rehearses twice a week at Libanus Church in Glanrhyd, Ystradgynlais. (Map)
Ystrad Band is one of the oldest Brass Bands in Wales having been
making music since the Victorian era when Ystradgynlais was an important
industrial town. We meet on Sundays and Wednesdays from 7:15 to
9:00. Our Training Band and learners meet from 6:00 to 7:00pm on
Wednesdays. We're a friendly community group whose members' ages range from seven to eighty-five and our aim is to open up the world of music to the community of Ystradgynlais by providing free membership and free tuition to anyone who wishes to join. We
arrange local concerts and support community organisations such as the
hospital, schools and nursing homes. We have competed at the Brangwyn
Hall in Swansea and in the National Eisteddfod, which is televised each
year on S4C. 2012 was a busy year for the band and we hope that 2013 will present us with more opportunities to entertain, perform and have fun in a range of settings and locations. |
